Drawing created when the artist was a young student at the Cowles Art School in Boston, Mass. between 1897 and 1899. The sitter is unidentified although it is likely that she was a fellow student of Hathaway's. According to the donor, life portraits were done of class members after a student had successfully completed courses in drawing from plaster casts.
